Who Has Emo Hair?

In order to have an Emo hairstyle, is it necessary to fall into a certain age category? The answer to that would depend on who you’re asking. Since this particular hairstyle is part of an “emotionally depressed” culture, members within the group would probably just view an outsider with this hairstyle as another way that proves the world hates them. On the other hand, if you asked that question to someone who just likes to be different, you would probably get the answer of age not mattering.

Of course, it is true that most people you see with an Emo hairstyle do seem to fall in a younger age group. However, there is Robert Smith, front man for The Cure, who is 49 and still wearing his hair in a cross between a Goth and Emo style. There is also Davey Havok, the band AFI’s lead singer, who is 32 years old and has a DEFINITE Emo hairstyle. The famous comedienne, Phyllis Diller, was a woman ahead of her time. She was sporting a wild Emo looking hairstyle 50 years ago. So, the Emo hairstyle seems to be more about attitude than age.

All you have to do is look around and you will see that very many of the Emo haircuts would look great on anyone, regardless of their age. In fact, many versions of the Emo hairstyle have been around for many years, just in more moderation. Think back several years ago to what was called “the windswept look.” This hairstyle, while not as dramatic as an Emo haircut, could certainly have been a distant cousin of this current look. It was deliberately “messy” as a hairstyle, and was, many times, cut in different layers. There was never an age limit on who could wear this hairstyle.

As the Emo hairstyle is intended to show the unique characteristics of the wearer, everyone should be allowed to find the individual Emo haircut for themselves. With all the many different looks that an Emo hairstyle offers, there is one to suit any facial structure. If you choose the right lengths and angles for your face, it will also be a very flattering hairstyle. While this is not actually meant to be flattering, but rather meant to convey a sense of anger and apathy, it can still be adapted by anyone. That’s the beauty of an Emo hairstyle. Whether it is worn by males or females, it is a cut that can be made to work for everyone.

The Emo hairstyle is particularly fun if you have a creative nature. It allows you to let go with that creativity by cutting all sorts of layers and angles, and then adding streaks or highlights in the color of your choice. You can become even more inventive by using more than one color to streak or highlight the black base of your hair. The only rule to having an Emo hairstyle is that there ISN’T any rule. By simply finding the right angles, shape and length to flatter your face, and then adding a splash of color, gives you an Emo hairstyle. After that, all you need is the nerve to go out and show it off proudly!
