Possibly, a famous person who was most instrumental in creating the
Emo hairstyle is Robert Smith, lead singer of The Cure. Robert began
sporting this particular look back in the 1980’s. He may not have
realized when he was doing all of these odd things to his hair that it
would become a highly popular trend in later years. In looking at
pictures of Robert from the early years of The Cure, it is evident that
he went to extremes when styling his hair. Although The Cure has often
been credited with helping to popularize the Gothic look, the
similarities in his hairstyle and the current Emo hairstyles are too
close to ignore. Today, at age 49, Robert Smith still proudly displays
his trademark hairstyle.
